Why did that chicken cross the street? Print E-mail
writing corner  -Maria De Rozari 14, Halifax

Why did the chicken cross the street? A question that perhaps at first glance has absolutely no point or meaning to it.  Even I thought it has nothing much to it besides a lot of randomness. But if I were to actually think of it a lot, I think there must have been a reason, a point to why.

Why the chicken wanted to, of all the things it could have done. If I were going to think of it rationally, like a lot of people would, I wouldn't get much out of an absurd question like that. Like who cares why the chicken crossed the road or whatever? Maybe it is because that question has always been asked as a joke not as a metaphor. When it is spoken as a joke the usual answer would be "to get to the other side". But try to think about it like it's supposed to mean something. You could probably think of many explanations as to why. That's what I am going to write about, my irrational reasons why I think that chicken crossed the street.

Nowadays, if you get scared or worried about something that not many people are scared of, and you show your feelings towards your fear, the word that come to people’s minds is "CHICKEN". For a long time people have always referred to chickens as being a coward and it is always frowned upon to be called that especially in our elementary and junior high years. Especially those years where peer pressure starts to kick in. Maybe you are still thinking WHAT does all this have to do with a chicken crossing a street but the question really is, how many chickens have you actually seen do something they're scared of?  How many chickens have you seen cross the road?

This one particular chicken that crossed the street, maybe it's the one in its group that always gets singled out, picked last in the games it plays, cries because it is sad but always gets laughed at FOR crying in the first place and always being called a coward from the rest of the group because it is too scared to do something. Now the funny thing is, most in the group are also chickens too afraid to cross the street. However, since a lot of them are scared, they can't pick on or tease each other.

Then one day, that special chicken that was always picked on saw the group for who they really were and decided to find other chickens who were more positive, helpful and caring. Also with this decision came inner courage and the chicken was no longer afraid to cross the street. The only choice the chicken had to make now was to either stay quiet and pretend he/she was also scared to cross the road and try to fit in the crowd or the chicken could prove something of him or herself.

That chicken chose to cross the road, and in doing so, the chicken showed those other chickens
that positive chickens will encourage positive results, and just because you are scared of one thing doesn't mean that you are scared of everything.
