Just Do It

By J LeFort, 15 Timberlea

I find the most annoying saying is "Just Do It". No offense to Nike, but at my age, "Just Do It" is usually used in dares or in sexual gestures.

I hate it when people try and make you do something you would rather not do. I mean, yeah sure, sometimes its a good thing to "just do it", but it depends on what "IT" is.
If you’re trying a new food, a new way of dressing or wearing make-up, sure, just do it: it's nothing big, and maybe you might like it.

Now, if were talking about doing something dangerous, or sexual, or something you might not feel comfortable doing, you really shouldn't have to do it, let alone be forced to.  You should be able to make your own choice because the choices you make as a child will affect your life as an adult. This whole thing falls under peer pressure, like sex, drugs, and alcohol.

You shouldn’t have to listen to people constantly telling you "Just do it". it’s your choice if you do it or not. I think that this peer pressure thing has gotten WAY out of hand and it isn’t like the adults can do too much to stop it.

You're not going to go up to your parents and say someone tried to force you into it because you're just as much at fault as the other person when you decide to do whatever "IT" is they pressure you into.

If it will make you feel better, you can say they nagged you into doing "it", but you had the CHOICE to take action, the CHOICE to walk away, the CHOICE to say no.

So remember, the next time you hear “Just Do It” or feel the pressure …STOP... and think of yourself first, make YOUR own CHOICES and prepare to take responsibility of your own actions.
