Teen Violence - Our Responsibility Print E-mail

Writing CornerTeen Violence - Our Responsibility

- By S. Jade, 14 HRM, Nova Scotia

Just recently there was a shooting in my area, by my school. It was reported as being a drug-related issue but for people in my area, is was also a life changing issue.

Teens obviously know what they are doing when they injure or kill someone. I don’t think it’s fair that we (teens) should serve such a small sentence in jails compared to adults for the same crime. I mean, hey, we took someone else’s life. Should the law not punish us as harshly as an adult? We took someone’s life. We should have to be accountable for our actions in the eyes of the law. Killing someone is not a joke but sometimes the sentencing for such crime is.

As teens, we must be more accountable for our actions if we want to be treated like an adult.
