War Bride
Erin M, 15 Tatamagouche
She's my beautiful war bride, When I left, she cried And tore my heart open wide. I don't know what she'd do if I died But if I did, it would be with pride.
Being here in this bloody mess, I can't forget her in that lovely dress. My wife and kids home in fear, Bombs and gunshots are all I hear.
I just need to tell my wife the words I said, On that lovely day we wed, Just go home to look to the good things ahead, And forget this war I dread.
I hope she gets the letters I write. I just don't want to die tonight I pray I'll wake to see the light.
The words echo in my ears "bomb overhead". My pal looks at me: "Does this mean we're dead"? I hope that I won't have to fight, After this fright filled night, I pray this is the last bomb they'll ignite.
I want to go home the best, I hope I don't die here with the rest. Does freedom have to be a contest?
I pray this will come to an end. I've lost my very best friend, All because our county we must defend. I'm hurt, I'm not strong, I can't pretend.
The last five years have been anything but fun. It's over now - we fought, we won, The war everyone will remember On the eleventh of November.
