For Immediate Release…

Teens Now Talk .com gives Atlantic Canadian teens the right to brag
North Colchester High School student gets the most recent bragging rights

Halifax, May 30, 2007 – Thirteen year old Arriel Tucker was presented with a Teens Now Talk (TNT) writing award and cash prize today at her school - North Colchester High School in Tatamagouche. Jessica Bowden, Editor and CEO of TNT made the presentation.

“We have over 200 teen stories and poems to date online, which reinforces why I started TNT – to get more teens reading and writing,” says Ms. Bowden. “Providing a medium for them to get their work published is so important. Recognizing their excellence in this way will help them develop a healthy form of expression and, hopefully, keep them writing for many years to come.

Not to mention, says Ms. Bowden, they get the all important bragging rights.

"When I found out about this magazine through a course I was taking it really made my day,” said Miss Tucker. "This is a great opportunity for teens to get their work out there. I am so proud to get my story published."

Teens Now Talk (TNT), a Halifax-based magazine written by teens for teens, showcases real teen issues and solutions in the form of short stories, poetry, journalistic articles, art and music. TNT is currently published online and has been gaining acclaim as an important outlet for teens to express themselves and be heard by their peers.

Ms. Bowden explains that “TNT gives Atlantic Canadian teens the opportunity to be seen, heard and to have a voice. Through the online magazine teens are able to express themselves and be recognized for their talents and more importantly, for their perspective.”

TNT publishes the work of youth between the ages of 13 and 24 – TNT’s teen reporters - who create the content for the magazine. They hold meetings to pitch story ideas on everything from health, fashion, and entertainment to culture, sports, careers and relationships among other areas of interest.

"Teens Now Talk is a magazine that has captured the attention of our student body at Highland Park Junior High, the magazine is totally focused on teen issues that are of interest to youth in our city," commented Joe Morrison, Principal of Highland Park Junior High School.

TNT launched online in the fall of 2006 and, according to Ms. Bowden, has been growing steadily ever since. Plans are in the works to launch a hard copy magazine this fall at an HRM location to be disclosed in just a couple of months. “The time is right to evolve this to a hard copy publication, explains Ms. Bowden. The teens have asked and worked for it, the schools support it and the market is ready for it.”

Ms. Bowden says the launch party is already generating buzz and excitement. “Our teens can’t wait for this next step. We’re planning something very special for them, something they will hopefully remember for a long time to come.”

In preparation for the launch, TNT is calling for submissions for the first issue. Teens are encouraged to submit their story ideas, 75 words or less, www.teensnowtalk.com. Of those story ideas, some teens will be asked to write the full story, which will be published in the launch issue of Teens Now Talk, the magazine.
