A Day of Recognition - January Writing Contest Winner Print E-mail

Jessica and Winner

A Day of Recognition

- TNT Teen Reporter, Lil’J

One winning teen ignites others to write their world!

On February 9th, 07     during a rally at Highland Park Jr. High, the gymnasium exploded!

300 students stood, cheered and applauded as they heard the exciting news given by one of today's surprise guest speakers, Ms J. Bowden, CEO of the new Teens Now Talk Magazine.

"We received 100's of fabulous stories and poetry submissions in the T.N.T. writing contest by teens just like you from all over Atlantic Canada. So why am I in your school today? To announce that one of you have won January's TNT writing contest. I would like to call to the front of the gymnasium Lillie Stanley for her powerful, winning story: Today I Killed a Man.winner for January, 2007

The bell rang ending the school assembly but not the excitement, it was contagious. The TNT crew caught up with Lillie to do an interview, just moments before rows of teens making their way to their classrooms filled the hallways. In between Lillie's infectious giggles and congrats and pats on her back from her classmates and teachers, we were able to ask her this question. “How does it feel to have your work published and to receive so much recognition from your peers for doing something you love?”

"What can I say?  Teens Now Talk Magazine really is the bomb! Without them I wouldn't have had this great opportunity to be able to share my writing with lots of other people. Wow, I even won a hundred bucks for doing what I love to do! They have given me a really great chance to share my photography and writing plus given me credit for it so I can start building my portfolio while I am still a teen. It is great to be a part of something big coming to Atlantic Canada which gives teens recognition.  I am glad Ms. J is working with teens to create this fabulous idea for the magazine.  It's going to be huge and successful. Wow! I am the first winner of the writing contest. It's really fun and easy to enter, so everyone should!"
